Let’s talk Bordeaux! This iconic French wine region is home to the first Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines, and to some of the most coveted wines in the world. Today, we're taking a journey to this renowned French region where we'll explore three classic wines: Bordeaux Rouge, Bordeaux Blanc, and Haut-Médoc. So, grab your glass and let's dive in!
Bordeaux: A Timeless Classic
Bordeaux Rouge is a general term for red Bordeaux wine that can come from anywhere in the Bordeaux region. There are six permitted grapes that these wines can be made from: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carmenere (although the latter of which is rarely used). Bordeaux reds often boast a symphony of flavors ranging from dark fruits like blackcurrant and plum to earthy notes and a hint of spice.
If you're looking for a full-bodied red that can be paired with many different foods and occasions, and comes in at an everyday price point, Lot 161 Bordeaux is a perfect option. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot is full of spicy dark fruit aromas and has a rich, silky texture. Pair it with a grilled meat, roast chicken with mushrooms, aged cheeses and you can't go wrong!
Bordeaux Blanc: The Lighter Side of the Region
While Bordeaux may be best known for its red wines, don't miss out on the whites of this region. Bordeaux Blanc wines are traditionally made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle grapes, and is celebrated for its bright acidity, citrusy notes, and a touch of minerality that adds depth to each sip.
With just one glass of Lot 222 Bordeaux Blanc, you’ll be transported to a sun-drenched vineyard in France. Our Bordeaux Blanc is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, making it the perfect zingy white to pair with warm days, fresh seafood, and creamy cheeses.
Haut-Medoc: Bordeaux's Left Bank
While Bordeaux Rouge and Bordeaux Blanc are perfect everyday wines, Bordeaux offers an endless array of more serious wines as you start to explore the subregions of the area. One such subregion is Haut-Médoc, on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Renowned for producing some of the world's most prestigious bottles, Haut-Médoc wines are made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. They are known for their complexity, structure, and age-worthiness.
Our Haut-Médoc, Lot 202, comes from a vineyard that is nestled between Margaux and Saint-Julien, overlooking the Garonne River. Here, the grapes grow in ideal conditions to achieve maximum ripeness. This wine is a step up in quality from Lot 161 Bordeaux Rouge, with a more layered flavor profile and a richer texture. In your glass you’ll find notes of ripe blackberries and cassis with hints of cedar, leading to a palate that's both bold and refined.
Lot 202 Haut-Médoc is perfectly paired steak frites, rosemary-crusted lamb chop or aged cheeses.
From the classic Bordeaux Rouge to the crisp Bordeaux Blanc and the sophisticated Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux offers a diverse selection of wines for every palate and occasion. Raise a glass of Bordeaux and savor the unparalleled quality that this iconic wine region has to offer. Cheers!
